What is in the frame
A dark display cabinet. Polka-dot ceramic cups, incense sticks and dried branches sit along the shelves. At the centre is a large blue butterfly — its wings turning from turquoise to deep navy — and beside it a bust covered in flowers.
LOCAL MAKERS is set in raised letters across the front, with a fish-shaped cutting board and sunflowers below, and an Instagram handle at the base. The subtitle opens on a single word; the film runs in a narrator's voice.
The hard part
A display case is a crowded frame. Around ten independent objects sit in it, each in a different material: glazed ceramic, dried plant, butterfly wing, wood, metal. Every one holds light differently, and if a single one behaves wrong the whole shelf reads as fake.
The butterfly wing is the hardest of them. It carries structural colour — the blue comes from light refracting rather than from pigment, so it shifts with angle. Produced as a flat, fixed blue it reads as a plastic ornament.
Then there is the typography. The raised letters had to throw their shadow in the right direction and stay consistent with the shelf lighting; the moment lettering separates from its surface it looks pasted on.
Where we shoot, where we generate
Product references were taken from real imagery. The form of the ceramics, the placement of the pattern and the identity elements are not open to free interpretation.
On work that introduces small makers, real photography holds a particular place. On a handmade object the flaw is part of the character: the ripple in a glaze, the mark a wheel leaves behind. Those enter the lens on set and carry the story of the product.
Generation earns its place carrying that product material into other displays, seasons and channels.
