About the Film

An AI video experiment for Teoman's Yorgun Mermi. A visual take on the song's atmosphere.

What is in the film

A street at night, in black and white. A blonde woman stands at the centre of the frame with a cigarette, looking straight into the lens. Pedestrians and city lights fill the space behind her, all of it out of focus; only she is sharp.

The crowd moves, she does not. For fifty-two seconds that is the whole visual tension — one still figure inside a city that keeps flowing.

The hard part

Black and white forgives nothing. With colour gone, tonal range is the only thing holding the scene up: let the shadows block and the image turns to mud, let the highlights blow and the face disappears. A street at night is already high contrast, so the range is narrow before you start.

Smoke is its own problem. The weight of cigarette smoke, how fast it disperses as it rises, and the way it breaks the light behind it all have to agree. When they don't, the smoke reads as an effect rather than part of the scene.

Then there is the crowd. Blurring the figures behind her does not license sloppiness — even a person outside the focal plane will be caught by the eye if they walk wrong.

Why we make films like this

This is not client work. It is an internal visual study built around the atmosphere of an existing song. Nothing was commissioned, and nothing was delivered to a brand or an artist; we made it as a benchmark for ourselves.

The question we set was simple: can we catch the feeling of a piece of music with lyrics using image alone? We make work like this to try what client projects rarely allow. Going fully black and white, locking to a single shot, refusing to narrate and only letting the viewer feel — those are hard calls to defend inside a brief.

What gets solved here moves into commercial work afterwards. The smoke and night-light study from this piece proved useful on later advertising jobs.

For work like this

We work with teams developing music videos and atmosphere-led short formats. Around fifty seconds is enough to establish a feeling without losing the viewer.
