About the Film
A fifteen-second vertical product video for a natural fibre soap. The scene — the product texture and every surface around it — was built with AI.
What is in the frame
A bar of soap wrapped in jute sits in a green glazed ceramic leaf dish, on veined marble. The light comes from above and stays soft — no hard shadow anywhere. That is a decision, not a default: on a fibre-wrapped product the eye goes to texture first, and hard light flattens that texture until the packaging reads like ordinary paper.
The camera looks straight down and pushes in very slowly across the fifteen seconds. Flat-lay setups do not offer much movement, but a completely static frame gets scrolled past. That slow push is the only thing keeping the viewer in the shot.
The hard part
Jute is one of the surfaces AI breaks most reliably. The weave starts repeating, the fibres fuse together, and up close it turns into textureless plastic. Here the texture had to read fibre by fibre rather than as a pattern tile. Most of the generated attempts were discarded for exactly that.
The ceramic dish was the second problem. A glazed surface reflects, and AI often builds that reflection independently of the rest of the scene. The highlight along the leaf veins and the light on the marble had to look like they came from the same source.
Where we shoot, where we generate
The main catalogue image of a product is shot for real. The actual colour of the soap, the actual thickness of the wrap, how the bar sits in a hand — these are measurable things, and they have to match what the customer finds in the box.
AI belongs around that image. How the same soap sits on five different surfaces, which prop works with it, which crop earns attention on a feed — these are questions that need iteration, and not every iteration deserves a shoot day.
In practice it runs both ways: the staging is explored with AI and the chosen setup is then shot for real, or the hero shot is captured on set and seasonal variants are generated from it.
Where this is useful
In cosmetics, personal care and household goods, packaging texture affects the buying decision directly. If you already have product photography, AI extends it; if you do not, it shortens the concept stage before you commit to a shoot.
